About the "This message could not be displayed." message
Sometimes, you might see a placeholder stating "This message could not be displayed." instead of the actual message sent to you.
Phiz Chat uses end-to-end encryption to protect your private messages and calls. This means that only you and the person you're communicating with can read, listen to, or share the content of the messages sent between you.
A few scenarios might cause a received message to be replaced by the "This message could not be displayed." error:
- The message was not fully delivered due to network drops.
- You or the sender recently reinstalled Phiz Chat.
- You or the sender are not using the latest version of Phiz Chat.
- You recently switched your primary device and installed Phiz Chat on a new device using the same phone number.
If you receive this placeholder message, you can try the following troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:
Stay online together
Ask the sender to open Phiz Chat on their device, and ensure that both of you are online and keep the app open at the same time to allow the encryption keys to sync.
Check your network connection
Make sure you have a stable internet connection. Try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data. If you don't have Wi-Fi or your mobile signal is poor, try moving to a different location with better coverage.
Update Phiz Chat
Ensure that both you and the sender have the latest version of Phiz Chat installed from your respective app stores.
Ask the sender to resend the message
If the message remains stuck or failed to deliver properly, simply ask the sender to resend the message.
Switch to your primary device
Try checking the message on your primary iOS or Android phone (the original phone you used to register your Phiz Chat account).
Note: You may need to open Phiz Chat on your primary phone at least once every 14 days to keep your account actively synced across any other linked companion devices.
